Stats – 40% alcohol, triple distilled, Lowland
Price – $45
Color – Golden
Nose – Light, vanilla, floral yet sweet.
Palate – One of the few Lowland distilleries, Auchentoshan (pronounced “ahh-hen-toe-shen” listen to Brian Cox say it though, it’s like a glorious Scottish sneeze). This whisky is slightly sea-spray salty at the front end, but that fades quickly to a rich sweet bourbon profile with dark cherries hitting the back of the tongue. The finish comes with a hint of iodine astringency that reminds you you’re drinking scotch, but the bourbon quality is ever present. Sweet and malty with a bit of buttery richness, much like a shortbread cookie – just a little salty but nice and sweet too. A touch of citrus zest. The iodine fades and the richness grows as this one breathes.
