FEW Rye

FEW Rye Taste Profile
Stats – 46.5% alcohol, Evanston, IL
Price – $65
Color – Reddish amber
Nose – Spicy and fiery
Palate – A distillery opening in the early haven of the temperance movement is big news, and even better news is that FEW is incredibly talented.  A good dose of cinnamon and spice in this rye.  It’s still a little sweet and surprisingly rich.  The richness builds all the way through this drink while the heat fades for a pleasingly sweet finish.  One of the best ryes on the market, track this one down if you like your rye tame and civilized.

FEW Bourbon

FEW Bourbon Taste Profile
Stats – 46.5% alcohol, rye/corn/barley mash-bill, aged 7-12 months in 5 gallon or 15 gallon barrels, Evanston,IL
Price – $55
Color – Dark rich amber
Nose – Spicy and rich
Palate – It’s not everyday that you hear a distillery opens in a town that rarely allows liquor stores and was the birthplace of Prohibition.  Yet, that was the story when FEW Spirits started operating the first legal still in Evanston, Illinois.  Lots of vanilla sweetness and very smooth with just the right amount of spice.  Having a rye dominated mash-bill gives this whiskey a good bold character while the corn balances it with sweetness and leaves just enough space for the barley to lend a cereal grain note.  Great stuff!

Alternatives:

  1. Glengoyne 10 Year (89%)
  2. Cedar Ridge (87%)
  3. Koval Lion’s Pride Dark Wheat (86%)
